The weather is finally starting to cool off a bit and its becoming my favorite time of year in Tallahassee! Come join us on Saturday, September 26, 2015 for family mini-sessions at Tallahassee’s iconic Dorothy B. Oven Park! Its the perfect way to get your family photos in well before the holiday rush, you can fit a quick morning session in before any college football starts and you get to save a bunch with the mini-session offer!
Each 30 minute mini-session can accommodate up to six people (or pets) of all ages (additional fees apply for larger families). The $49 nonrefundable session fee includes your session time, retouching of all the final images and an in studio order session to make your purchase decisions. We will have discounted packages starting at $199, or you can always order a la carte from our normal print pricing menu.

I am absolutely overjoyed with the recent results from the International Print Competition hosted by Professional Photographers of America and also the Florida Professional Photographers annual print competition. Judging for each of these competitions is very strict, so any success at this level is awesome!
For the International Print Competition, you can enter four images. They are judged first to decide if they are merit images or not. Merit images are images that are exemplary for a professional photographer, which is a very high standard. Once all the merit images have been chosen, the judges go back to select the best of the best to be included in the loan collection. This year, I received merits for all four of my images and two were selected for the loan collection! Wowza! This means for 2015, I am a PPA Gold Medal Photographer! I also received the last merit I needed to receive my Master Photographer designation in January! Yay!!
For the Florida competition, I entered nine images and had seven of them merit! I also received a distinguished award and my image scores placed me in the top ten of Florida Professional Photographers! I will receive my Florida Degree of Photographic Excellence next August for the merits I have received at the state level.

I know a lot of you have noticed that a quiet has recently come over the blog and Facebook. I promise I haven’t dropped off the face of the Earth! There are lots of new, fun, exciting changes in the works at Long’s Photography! The quiet has come from my crazy travel schedule as I have been teaching, going to conferences and most importantly I attended PPA’s Judges School this year in Atlanta.
Photographic print competition has been a passion of mine for about six years. I can promise any new photographer that competing and watching competition will absolutely positively without a doubt be the best way to become a better photographer. It has challenged me, frustrated me, inspired me and humbled me in so many ways. Learning to judge during my week in Atlanta was exactly the same experience, just at a different level.
If you are a newer photographer or someone who has never before competed, I strongly encourage you to bite the bullet and do it. Enter your images, go to the competition, listen from critiques and do it all with an OPEN MIND! So often, we are personally invested in our work and we become angry and defensive when it is judged as less than perfect. I promise you, the judges are not there to tear you down! As judges, we are taught to teach, to help, and to fight for the maker as much as we can.
Going to judges school was one of the biggest inspirations I have had as a photographer in years. The class is held as PPA does their annual International Print Competition, so we spent a good amount of time with the actual judges– talking to them, asking questions, observing the process, etc. Seeing how hard the judges work to give every print the very best possible chance, learning how much goes into being a good judge and how rigorous the process is to become an approved IPC juror… it absolutely gave me a new found respect for the judges themselves. But more than that, it really boosted my passion and loyalty for PPA. PPA is an organization that is daily battling for photographers, providing education, insurance, legal counsel, etc. to an industry of mostly self employed artists. To see how much the organization and its members commit to print competition is absolutely awe inspiring.
If you are a photographer and you haven’t yet joined PPA, I strongly encourage you to do it– RIGHT NOW. Its probably the single most important investment you can make in your business and your craft. If you are a PPA member, but you have never gone to print judging– go look now and mark it on your calendar. Get prints ready and submit them too! Get Master Photographers to critique your work for you. Use the resources this amazing organization has for you.
In a very cynical world, it was completely heart warming and motivational to see so many people working to better our industry as a whole. I am so thrilled I went and so energized to create better images and to also share that knowledge with other photographers! Thank you PPA!

One of our most anticipated mini-sessions of the year is here! Our very special Angel Babies mini-sessions will be On Saturday, August 22nd here at the studio! This is the only time each year that the angel wings come out of storage, so if you miss it, you have to wait a whole year! Each mini-session can accommodate up to two siblings (ages six months to five years) and is just a $29 session fee!
We will have discounted print packages starting at $199, but you can also order off our normal a la carte price list. There is no minimum order, so its all about what works for you!

A dear friend recently told me that I am terrible at the “humble brag”, and I know its true. I guess its part of my Southern manners that you aren’t supposed to brag about yourself, so writing posts like this are actually super difficult for me!
But, the recent honors I have received warrant a bit of bragging! Last month, at the Tallahassee Professional Photographers Guild annual print competition, I was overjoyed to have all six of my entries be judged as merits by the panel of judges. Even more exciting, my image “Frozen” was chosen as the best Illustrative image and the overall “Best in Show”! Also, my image, “Possessed” was named as the overall third place image!

My name is Linda and I am addicted to bulldogs. Admitting you have a problem is the first step, right?? My first dog was a bulldog and she was the greatest dog ever. (Completely non-biased opinion here). Ever since, I go bonkers for any roly, snorty, chubby, wiggly bulldog. A bulldog puppy? Yeah… that’s like my version of crack!
So, when a good friend happened to mention that he was dog sitting a bulldog puppy… yeah… well… I puppy-napped the bulldog. In exchange for some snorty puppy kisses, I spent some time photographing Chipper here at the studio. I spent the rest of the time playing and snuggling, but at least there was a part of the day that was productive!
So brace yourself for the irresistible cuteness of Chipper the bulldog!
