Long Family

Long Family

The Long family (no relation) was overdue for a family portrait, so we caught up one day after work and played in the park.  Little man is absolutely precocious and had me in constant giggles.  Such a big personality in such a little guy!

Families aren’t perfect.  There is no family out there who is 100% on point all the time.  I adore families who embrace that and since the Gonzalez family has three babies under the age of four, there is a lot of “imperfect” moments!  I love that the large wall portrait they chose shows the individual personality of each child and really captures how their family is at this point in time!

I am not a morning person.  I am not one to get up early unless I have to, so I totally understand when clients are reluctant to book a sunrise session at the beach.  BUT… I absolutely adore photographing family beach portraits at sunrise.  Yes, I know that seems wrong, but the light is so beautiful, the beach is deserted and we have all the sand just for us and the birds.  Plus, its the coolest time of the day, so if you want to avoid the heat, its the perfect time of day for a family portrait session at the beach.

Since we caught low tide at Summer Camp Beach, we not only had an amazing portrait session, but we spent the half hour after the session exploring the tidal pools to see fish, scallops and crabs already busy with their day.  It was one of those perfect, peaceful mornings and I love that part of their memory of their family portrait session at the beach includes that time of relaxation and exploration!

The Raines Family

The Raines Family

I have heard families say for years that they are putting off doing family portraits because their family is still growing.  I have to say, I hate this reason!!  Yes, your family is growing and changing, but it will forever grow and change!  There may be more children, they may get married, there will be grandchildren, etc.  Don’t neglect the moment that you have NOW!  For only a few years the Raines were a family of four and I am so glad we could capture their last family portrait while there was just the four of them!  Someday these big sisters will think back on the time before they had the new baby, when it was just the four of them.  The baby will look at them and see how loved they were from the very beginning.

Summer Camp Beach was the perfect location for this portrait.  It is such a calm, serene beach and the colors of the sunrise make you feel the warmth, love and peace which was just what I felt when I photographed this family portrait.

Getting four kids dressed, coordinating and looking cute for family beach portraits is no easy task, but the Yowell family made it look effortless for their beach photo session in Summer Camp Beach!  The colors coordinated so perfectly together and then the sunset came in as a perfect match!
