COVID19 is NO fun.  We miss our friends, our routines, our sense of normal.  I desperately miss being in the studio, playing with all the kiddos, snuggling all the babies and spending time with all my clients.  I am so blessed to be a part of a very large network of professional photographers and through this we have stayed connected online to give each other support and friendship.  One of the most importrant of these groups is my home guild- the Tallahassee Professional Photographers Guild.

This group is where I first put myself out there to network with other professional photographers.  13 years later, this group is some of my closest friends on the planet and they are my “co-workers” in a sense.  We celebrate each others successes and we help comfort in times of failure.  They have my back and I have theirs through thick and thin, so connecting tonight online instead of in person for our monthly meeting was just what I needed.

I was thrilled that we could still hold our monthly image competition and that my peers chose two of my images as the best in their categories.

Super proud mama moment when the image of my babies was chosen as the winner for Portrait of a Group!!  Then I also won the special challenge that had to be GOLD themed.  I am always honored when my fellow professional photographers choose my image as the best, it just means SO much!

Photo and Video Booth for Tallahassee Weddings

Photo and Video Booth for Tallahassee Weddings

Long’s Photography has photographed Tallahassee weddings for fifteen years but now has something brand new to offer the Capital City– a Photo/Video Booth!  Sure, wedding photo booths have been a staple of Tallahassee weddings for years, but NONE have been like this one!

The new photo booth will allow you to create still images or moving gif video files!  We can make slow motion videos as well to really make your guests laugh!

The booth is compact and wireless, taking up very little room at your reception.  Its really easy to operate- even kids can do it!  After the photo booth captures your image or video, you input your phone number and it texts you the image right away.  This means your guests can share it straight to social media, while the reception is still going on!

The best part is that the bride and groom get the gallery with ALL the images from their event!

The Photo/Video booth is discounted as an add-on when you book Long’s Photography for your wedding photographer, but it is also available separately.  For Long’s Photography brides, it is $500 for three hours and for everyone else it is $650 for three hours.

Be sure to contact the studio as soon as possible to inquire about availability for your date!

The studio has been so busy in the last year that I have neglected to post a LOT of celebration posts about how my images have done in competition!  I have made a New Years resolution to celebrate more and share with y’all all the exciting news!!

This month at the Tallahassee Professional Photographers Guild meeting my images won Best Group Portrait and Best Portrait of a Child… and then I won the overall Print of the Month!  Yay!  Its even more meaningful to me because of the images that won these titles.

The group image of the Charles family is one I adore not only because its a great family portrait, but because I love the people IN the photo.  I have been photographing the Charles family since their oldest was a toddler and each and every session is awesome, memorable and a heck of a lot of fun!

The portrait of a child is a story near and dear to my heart and it is an image of healing, self love and growth.  Almost daily I have someone mention Bri’s story or the Phoenix Project I am currently working on.  To read more about Bri and the Phoenix Project, go to: https://www.longsphotography.com/tallahassee-photographer-charity-phoenix-project

Bri

Bri

Middle school is hard.  Its probably the worst three years of childhood for most everyone.  But for some, middle school can become an absolute hell.

Bri is a quiet, introverted, gentle child.  She is the perfect target for a bully and when she started middle school this year, she immediately became the victim of vicious bullying.  She was bullied for the deep color of her skin and was mocked and ridiculed daily.

Bri found the inner strength to speak out and wrote about her depression and suicidal thoughts in a class assignment.  Unfortunately, the school jumped into action, but only to involve mental health services for Bri- NOT to address the bullying.

Bri’s mother spoke out and put her story on social media.  Her story reminded me of my own struggles with depression and anxiety at her age and I instantly knew I could help.

I contacted her mother and the amazing Mikaya Dionne joined as my partner to make this portrait session something that would help Bri heal and embrace the body that God gave her.

My vision was to make an image composed of all darkness so the highlights of Bri’s skin would become the subject and I could show her the beauty in her darkness.  Mikaya was AMAZING with her makeup artistry and brought my vision to life.  You could see Bri transform not only through the makeup but you could see her whole expression and body language change as she saw her own beauty.

Mikaya, Bri’s mom and I all fought back tears the entire time.  Watching this girl smile and be proud of herself and her color is one of the most rewarding moments I have experienced behind the camera.

Bri’s story has inspired me to continue helping others heal and I am now launching The Phoenix Project for 2020.  I will photograph one session each month completely for free to help someone heal and love the body they are in.  Whether its healing from bullying like Bri, or healing after a cancer battle, or any other struggle, I would love to help give back to their recovery process.  To nominate someone or to offer your help for any Phoenix Project sessions, please go to: https://www.longsphotography.com/phoenix-project/
