The Richmond Family

Olyn and I met up with the Richmond family at Maclay Gardens yesterday for another birthday surprise portrait session! This time the girls were surprising dad, so if you see him, don't tell him about it! His birthday isn't until next month and they want to have it all wrapped up ready for him!www.LongsPhotography.com

Lindsey, Frank, Luke and Kelly

I just love surprises! Lindsey, Frank, Luke and Kelly all conspired to surprise Mom with a portrait session of the kids for her birthday. Since Luke and Kelly were only going to be in town for a very short window, we were all so upset yesterday when the weather turned bad. Luckily, the rainshowers broke just long enough to fit in a quick session at Maclay. So, since the first thing Mom will see of her birthday present is this blog post... HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Oh, and sorry you got ditched at home last night while the kids ran out to play at the park with me! www.LongsPhotography.com

The Shelby Family

I was back at Maclay Gardens this morning for portraits of the Shelby family... I swear I just need to pitch a tent and stay , I have been there so much! The ground was still a bit mucky from last night's storm, but we found a few dry places to sit! Even though it was a TAD humid, I think we got some really great shots and as always, I had a blast with the Shelbys!I have seen a lot of critters at Maclay-- deer, squirrels, frogs, etc. But this was a new one-- crawfish! I honestly thought it was a weird fluke until we found some of his friends! Sarah was a lot braver than me, she actually wanted to pick him up! www.LongsPhotography.com

The Rice Family

I don't think many assignments can be as tough as photographing a family of 10 adults and 11 children on a hot day in between rainstorms, but that is exactly what we did yesterday for the Rice family. Not only did we get some great shots of the family, but we had a wonderful time meeting everyone and playing around with the kiddos! www.LongsPhotography.com

Rice Family-- Part I

So, Friday was a crazy busy day! We met Christy and Kory at Maclay Gardens Friday evening for a somewhat untraditional portrait session. Christy's family will be doing a VERY large family portrait in about a week... when Christy will be in Italy for a wedding. Rather than have her not be in the family portrait, her mom commissioned me to do a separate session of Christy and we will just add her into the photo later.

Since we were going to be at the park anyways, Christy brought along her boyfriend Kory so we could do some couple's portraits as well. These two were an absolute riot and really made the session a lot of fun! I can't wait to get the whole big family together! www.LongsPhotography.com

The Blackburn Family

We had such an awesome family portrait session yesterday with the Blackburn family in Southwood. The weather already made us reschedule the session once, so despite the dark looking skies, we went ahead with the session. The sky threatened to storm, but we managed to get everything in before it really started to rain. The storm clouds were actually quite nice-- it cooled everything off and gave us really great light!www.LongsPhotography.com

Baby Caden

Yesterday was a big reminder to me of how important my work is. I went to meet Baby Caden at his home yesterday afternoon for his newborn session. I absolutely love his parents and I have photographed their engagement portraits, their wedding, their maternity portraits and now their son. Walking into their home, it really hit me that my work is all over their home. That the images I had created mean so much to them that they have them displayed in almost every room of the house. It definitely made me reflect on how rewarding my job is!

Baby Caden was absolutely adorable and very much alert! He watched me almost the entire session! I don't think I have ever had a newborn that awake and alert!

Baby Suzanna

Baby Suzanna was in the studio this week with her big brother Drew for her six month portraits. She was an absolute cutie and really cracked me up with her sideways sitting. This little girl is so determined to walk, I think her mom is in for a lot of trouble really soon!www.LongsPhotography.com

The Tucker Family

I'll admit it-- I fell in love with the Tucker family. They are the kind of people that make you feel like old friends-- even when you just meet them. We had a phenomenal shoot this morning at Tom Brown park. It took Elijah a few minutes to warm up, but we got a great variety of expression from him and he was probably the easiest two year old I have ever worked with!www.LongsPhotography.com

Family Portrait Day at Maclay

Wow... what an incredible day we had Saturday for our "Family Portrait Day at Maclay"!! We had so much fun with all the families and the images are really great-- it was so difficult to narrow down favorites for the blog! So here is a SUPER sneak peek-- I can't wait to get through ALL the images!

The Smith Family

I photographed the Smith family yesterday morning at Maclay Gardens-- it was a great preview for today's "Family Portrait Day at Maclay". I really had a lot of fun with the family... getting little kiddos to look at the camera always makes me come up with new creative silliness! :)www.LongsPhotography.com

The Cave Family

Friday afternoon felt less Florida-like and more Canada-like, but the Cave family and I braved the chilly weather and went out to Maclay Gardens for a family portrait session. I have to admit it was kind of nice to have the park to ourselves!

I had so much fun with the Caves-- they are such open people who laugh easily and are so welcoming. Ron is actually running to become the next Sheriff of Jefferson County. Although we only spent a brief period of time together, his civic commitment and honest values make him an ideal candidate for public office. So, if you are in Jefferson County, take a minute to get to know Ron and judge for yourself! :)

Brittany is one of the most beautiful children I have ever photographed-- and one of the funniest as well. Her fake smile makes me giggle so hard!
The more political shot of Ron...Brittany got cold waiting for her dad to change clothes, so she stole her mom's coat. I thought poor Cathy was going to get hypothermia! They are really such a close family. http://www.longsphotography.com/

Holiday Portraits-- Day Four

Saturday was our final day of holiday portraits! We met 12 families at Maclay Gardens for a full day of portraits. I know this blog entry is a bit late (and thank you to the three people who called me today worried about me since the blog has not been updated in awhile!), but hope you enjoy these quick favorites! www.LongsPhotography.com

Holiday Portraits-- Day Three

Hmm... the blog is starting to sound like a Christmas song... on the third day of holiday portraits, I saw lots of families hugging, many many puppies, and a baby pouting... well it doesn't really rhyme or go to the music, but its how yesterday went!

The Dalbey Family

Yesterday's bride, Jennifer, contacted me a few weeks ago to do portraits of her Uncle Dale and new cousin Noah. Normally, I never take another booking on a wedding day, but they were really excited about beach portraits and a morning session would give plenty of time before Jennifer's coverage began.

I got to St. George just after sunrise and the weather was absolutely beautiful! We played on the beach with Dale, Noah, Henry the doggie and Noah's grandparents. I am so glad I made an exception for this portrait shoot-- it was so wonderful to spend time with such an amazing family!

The Strickland Family

I went over to the Strickland's home in Monticello yesterday afternoon for some family portraits. With a beautiful sunset, crisp fall weather and a rustic setting, it was a photographer's dream! Despite his best efforts, I think I even managed to capture a few of Corey's smiles!

The Thomas Family

I love the Thomas family-- I really do! I photographed Mary Beth and Michael's wedding back in March and we caught up again yesterday to do their Christmas family portraits. They are the sweetest, friendliest family I have ever worked with. I had so much fun out at Dorothy B. Oven park with them!

I was out in Quincy this morning to photograph the Fauble family-- the owners of the McFarlin House Bed and Breakfast. Not only are they an adorable family, but I swear the house belongs in a storybook!

Grayson and Bethany

Grayson and Bethany came by the studio this week for a Christmas portrait session. I honestly don't think I have ever seen a little sister lover her brother as much as Bethany adores Grayson.

The Taylors

I had a Christmas card session yesterday with the Taylor family. Two young boys and a tiny baby girl definitely made the shoot interesting! It really took me back to when my brother and I used to fight... "MOM! He's looking at me!" I managed to coerce poor Mabry and Pace to pose together for a few shots, in between wrestling matches. :)

Here are two of the cards I designed for them:

The Garber Family

I was back at Maclay Gardens this morning to photograph the Garber family for their Christmas. Sydney must be the most outgoing child I have ever photographed! She made the shoot SO much fun and I have to admit her giggles are completely contagious!
